In response to the Romantics, the Civil War brought a time of realism to the American stage with the intent of portraying life as vividly and accurately as possible. We have read Emerson and Thoreau that sought to find the beauty in the world and see nature as being the driving force behind the existence of people. For this assignment I want you to portray Buffalo Grove in two distinct ways. First, I want you to "Romanticize" the high school in all of its infinite greatness. Talk about how great of a place it is and how much you love it. Second, I want you to give the "Reality" of Buffalo Grove high school. Basically, I want you to "tell it like it really is." You must use vivid imagery and detail and let your audience see what you are writing.
